Quick explanation of a few things before we start

Before I get going on this endeavor I wanted to make a few things clear.

Bear With Me

Please bear with me. I haven’t written anything like this in a long time and it might take me a bit to get into a groove. My memory isn’t all that great anymore either due to a bad accident which in turn had me hopped up on narcotics for the better part of a decade.

Categories

The categories are laid out as they are in my iTunes. I have tried my best to make the categories work within the confines of the iTunes Music Store, but some categories are not included on the iTMS. As well, some songs and albums are categorized in weird ways on the iTMS. Albums by rock groups are set for Pop, Pop groups set for R&B/Soul, etc. I have tried to fix these as much as possible but there may be some wrong genres here and there.

Gracenote, formerly CDDB, is riddled with false categories these days. Ever since they opened their database to user submissions genres and even CD information has gotten almost as badly out of whack as the user generated ones used by various iTunes ID3 tag clean-up programs. While Gracenote is still the #1 source for correct CD information on the net, I have had to submit corrections quite a few times myself.

In all, there is no definitive way to make every single song/album fit the correct category. This is made even worse by the plethora of crossover artists within the past few decades. A rap artist might make a Pop song, while a rock artist might make a country album (looking at you, Bon Jovi). If you know of a song or album discussed here that is labeled at being in the wrong genre please let me know either by the Contact Me form or through the comments section. I will do my best to verify and correct.

The Non-Music category will be those odd posts that have nothing to do with the mission of this project. Whether it be a post about some horrible disaster or how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has yet again dissed Alice Cooper, they are considered Non-Music posts due to their not being part of the mission.

Tags

I will be using tags for posts but in a different way than most. While most bloggers use them as a way of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) I will be using them as an easy way for readers to find posts about their favorite artists. By tagging posts with the names of the artists a search of the site, once the amount of posts gets long enough, will be much easier than trying to get through a bunch of useless tags.

Difference in Posts

While many posts will have memories of where I heard a song first, what was happening, and stuff like that don’t be surprised to see posts with none of those things. Those are added bonuses as far as I am concerned as the main goal of this project is to have input from others are I cull my iTunes library from the enormous size it is down to the songs I really enjoy and want to keep. To actually listen to the music I have that I have not listened to yet, and decided whether to keep those songs/albums or not.

Album Art

Where I can I will include album art in the post. I will also always include a link to either iTunes Music Store or Amazon for purchase of the music if possible. Some of my music comes from sources that just don’t allow purchase, such as unsigned bands or friends in bands.

Design

If anyone wants to design a nice theme for this site, go for it. I will definitely check it out and give a huge shoutout to you and your business/place of work. Logos are also welcome. I went a bit quick and dirty on this site as I do have other sites to build that look a lot better than this one. Cobbler’s son and all that.
